Committee and Area Rep Descriptions/Duties
Area Representatives – Our current area representatives can be found here.
- Be available as a contact person for the technicians in your area and MAVT board
- Arrange and attend CE events, including National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW)
- Submit written summaries of all CE events to the board
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
- No term limit, more than one representative per area is allowed and encouraged

Bylaws Committee – This committee is active, Chair: Meri DuRand.
- Examine bylaws for consistency and correctness
- Present proposed changes to the board and at the annual meeting as needed for ratification
- Update bylaws as needed to reflect voted changes
Credentials Committee – Chair: Kim Horne, horne003@umn.edu
- Review CVT recertification documents as they are received by MVMA
- Committee members serve on the MVMA Credentialing committee/sub-committee and participate in meetings, and recommendations for MVMA veterinary technician certification guidelines and inquiries
- Committee members review all MAVT continuing education events to pre-approve and determine categorization as as interactive or non-interactive as well as medical or non-medical

Convention Committee – Chair: Jess Towley, convention@mavt.net
- Organize annual convention
- Answer questions about convention or forward to appropriate contact.
- Coordinate information about the convention and make arrangements with the four co-chairs

- Speaker contact – Jess Towley
- Review post-convention surveys and research a variety of speakers and topics
- Work with MVMA for shared speakers, topics and events.
- Arrange schedule of speakers/lectures by days, time
- Primary contact for speakers, send out contracts and follow up for notes.
- Provide schedule information, notes, to the website/proceedings coordinator.
- On-site at convention to help with speaker check in, registration, troubleshooting.
- Hotel contact – Position Open
- Primary contact with hotel.
- Coordinate lecture rooms and work with speaker contact to determine what lectures are in each size room.
- Coordinate and arrange for any lunch sessions – number of attendees and menu selection.
- Coordinate AV requirements – with hotel AV or outside company.
- Arrange hotel reservations for speakers and board/volunteers.
- Volunteer coordinator – Chair: Kelly Reid
- – Request/Coordinate volunteers to moderate speaker sessions

- – Provide a checklist of moderators duties along with contact information if problems.

- Online/Proceedings coordinator – Lori Koehler
- Work with Omnipress or other online proceedings company to get a cost proposal and present to board for approval
- Work with Speaker contact to post convention information on website
- Work with Membership chair and programer to setup online registration
- Provide convention information and speaker notes to online proceeding company. Review and approve information before pages go live.
- Provide program book material to be printed/shipped to the hotel.

Education Committee – Chair: Leslie Epstein, Stpaularea@mavt.net
- Contact between MAVT and accredited VT programs in MN
- Designate a student liaison from each program via their SCNAVTA chapters
- Touch base with each program director as needed to keep them apprised of current MAVT actions that may affect or be of interest to students
- Oversee the MAVT scholarships
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

- Manage the MAVT membership database
- Contact person for membership and convention registration questions
- Work with the MAVT Website to coordinate Membership renewals and convention registration information.

Newsletter – Editor: Debi Mahoney, aerobic_debi@yahoo.com
- Research, assemble, edit and publish “The Voice”, MAVT monthly newsletter
- Submit newsletter to President/ President Elect for review prior to publishing online
- Post newsletter to MAVT website and notify website chair to release email blast

- Attend Governmental Affairs meetings as needed (typically November and February)
- This position includes becoming the chair or co-chair of the Credentials Committee
Public Relations Committee – Chair: Molly Ziegler, PublicRelations@mavt.net
- Manage MAVT social media presence
- Set up email accounts for new board members if needed
- Attend MAVT annual convention with primary task of booth set up, staffing and teardown
- Assist with other convention volunteer tasks as available (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
- Create and send surveys to website chair for dissemination to members
- Send notification of call for nominations for Tech of the Year annually
- Maintain list of past Tech of the Year recipients in Google drive
- Award Tech of the Year award at annual convention
Want to help with Public Relations? Committee members could help manage social media in a timely manner. The committee members could help with the coordination of the MAVT booth at Convention. Interested – contact Molly Ziegler.
Sponsorship Committee – This position is currently open.
- Contact members of the community to enlist sponsorship for CE events and annual convention
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
Website committee – Chair: Maureen (Moe) Park, membership@mavt.net
- Update MAVT website as needed
- Send out email blasts
- Troubleshoot any problems/concerns with website
- Work with membership and newsletter as well as any other board members that may be adding information to website
- Liaison for hosting and domain companies hired by MAVT
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
