Officer Duties and Descriptions
President
- Conduct monthly business meeting
- Conduct annual business meeting at convention
- Submit notes from annual business meeting at convention to membership for approval and send to website chair to post online
- Submit meeting schedule for the year at March transition meeting
- Ensure that all board members have access to documents in Google drive
- Present strategic plan to board in March and/or present at annual conference
- Select committee chairs as necessary
- Mediate conflicts and carry out decisions made by the board
- Facilitate communication between board members, committee chairs and MVMA
- Organize all incoming information from the board and disseminate to appropriate parties
- Mentor president elect
- Assign tasks/duties as necessary
- Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) as a representative of MAVT
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
- At the end of two year term become MAVT past president
President Elect – (Elected in odd years)
- Attend monthly business meetings
- Conduct monthly business meetings in the absence of the president
- Work with current board members to become familiar with MAVT policy and procedures
- Take meeting minutes in the absence of the secretary
- Assist committees in carrying out tasks
- Actively participate in education committee to ensure MAVT maintains open communication with all accredited VT programs in the state of MN
- Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) as a representative of MAVT
- Procure the Tech of the Year award for presentation at the annual convention
- Maintain documents in Google drive and update as needed
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
- At the end of two year term serve as MAVT president
Secretary – (Elected in even years)
- Two year term
- Keep typed minutes of all monthly meetings
- Submit minutes to the board for approval and send to website chair to post online once approved (secretary has 7 days from approval date to submit)
- Condense approved meeting minutes to highlights for newsletter
- Keep a file with voting totals from all ballot decisions
- Retrieve mail from PO Box and disseminate as needed
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
Treasurer – (Elected in odd years)
- Two year term
- Keep accurate records of ledger and checkbook
- Make all deposits and pay bills as needed
- File all bills, receipts and expense records
- Submit a monthly report of finances to board and keep available for members as needed
- Deliver all financial records to accountant to file tax forms by end of fiscal year (May 31st)
- Work with accountant as needed
- Have basic knowledge of MAVT website functions
- Have basic knowledge of quickbooks
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
State Representative – (Elected in even years)
- Two year term
- Minnesota representative to NAVTA
- Oversee all six areas (Minneapolis, St. Paul, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest)
- Provide area representative with a handbook every February during conventionĀ
- Assist area representatives in arranging CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW)
- Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) as a representative of MAVT
- Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
