Student Scholarship

Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians Scholarships

A qualified student could be awarded one of five $1000 scholarships.

Application for Winter 2021-22 Instructions:
  1. Applicants must be enrolled in and must be in good standing at an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program in Minnesota.
  2. Applicants must be a student member of MAVT in good standing.
  3. Applicants are required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Applicants will need to have completed at least 50% of the program requirements.
  5. Applicants must complete a 500-word personal essay on one of these topics:
    1. What attributes do you feel makes an excellent Veterinary Technician?
    2. What career paths can Veterinary Technicians take once they have graduated and are licensed?
  6. Applicants must provide the following documentation:
    1. A letter confirming good academic standing from their AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician Program.
    2. Up to date transcripts.
    3. At least one professional reference from a place of employment (previous or current) or community involvement.
  7. Essays and applications will be reviewed by the MAVT Board of Directors and the recipients of the scholarship awards will be announced at the MAVT business meeting in February 2022.
  8. Selection will be based on the overall strength of the student’s submission:
    1. Clear thoughts and ideas about the assigned topic(s)
    2. Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  9. With your essay you must include the following information:
    1. Name
    2. Email Address
    3. Phone contact
    4. Attending College/Veterinary College contact information/Program Director
  10. Your essay submission will be disqualified for the following reasons:
    1. Misspellings, punctuation, and improper use of grammar.
    2. The submission did not provide a clear explanation, or it provided no explanation of the assigned essay topics.

 

All applications must be submitted electronically to the Education Committee at  education@mavt.net by midnight on Friday, December 31, 2021.

 

Mollie Jean Mahowald Scholarship Award

 

A qualified student could be awarded one $1000 scholarship for showing exceptional work within the community.

 

Application for Winter 2021-22 Instructions:

 

  1. Applicants must be enrolled in and must be in good standing at an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program in Minnesota.
  2. Applicants must be a student member of MAVT in good standing.
  3. Applicants are required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Applicants will need to have completed at least 50% of the program requirements.
  5. Exceptional work within the community may include:
    1. Active volunteer work in the veterinary community and/or outside of the veterinary community.
    2. Active duty military service.
    3. Involvement in a student organization (i.e. SCNAVTA)
  6. Applicants must complete a 500-word personal essay on the following topic: In what way do veterinary technicians contribute to society and in what do you hope to contribute?
  7. Applicants must provide the following documentation:
    1. A letter confirming good academic standing from their AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician Program.
    2. Up to date school transcripts.
    3. At least one professional reference from a place of employment (previous or current).
    4. Documentation from a volunteer coordinator confirming community involvement, volunteer or military status, reliability, and hours worked within the current calendar year.
  8. Essays and applications will be reviewed by the MAVT Board of Directors and the recipients of the scholarship awards will be announced at the MAVT business meeting in February 2022.
  9. Selection will be based on the overall strength of the student’s submission:
