MAVT Officer Position Descriptions

President

  • Conduct monthly business meeting

  • Conduct annual business meeting at convention

  • Present goals for the upcoming year to board in March 

  • Recruit and appoint committee chairs as necessary

  • Mediate conflicts and carry out decisions made by the board

  • Facilitate communication between board members, and committee chairs

  • Mentor President Elect

  • Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) 

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

  • Be a signer on MAVT bank accounts

  • At the end of one year term become MAVT Past President

President Elect

  • Attend monthly business meetings

  • Conduct monthly business meetings in the absence of the President

  • Take meeting minutes in the absence of the Secretary

  • Oversee and assist committees in carrying out tasks

  • Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) 

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

  • Be a signer on MAVT bank accounts

  • At the end of one year term serve as MAVT president

 

Past President

  • One year term

  • Mentor President

  • Chair the Nomination Committee

  • Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) 

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

Secretary

  • Two year term

  • Takes typed minutes at all board meetings and annual business meeting

  • Within 2 weeks after a board meeting, send minutes and draft agenda to board for review and approval to send with board packet (agenda, minutes from previous meeting, financials and any other documents to share for the board meeting)

  • When minutes and draft agenda are reviewed by board members, send board packet to board and committee volunteers at least 5 days prior to monthly business meetings

  • When minutes are officially approved by the board at the board meeting, send them to the Executive Director for posting to google drive and website. 

  • Submit notes from annual business meeting at convention to membership for approval and send to website chair to post online

  • Create meeting schedule for the year for approval at March transition meeting

  • Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) 

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

Treasurer

  • Two year term

  • Work with Executive Director to keep accurate records of ledger and checkbook

  • Work with Executive Director to make all deposits and pay bills as needed

  • Work with Executive Director to file all bills, receipts and expense records

  • Work with Executive Director to submit a monthly report of finances to board 

  • Work with Executive Director to deliver all financial records to accountant to file tax forms by end of fiscal year (May 31st)

  • Attend one or more annual area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) 

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

State Representative

  • Two year term

  • Minnesota representative to NAVTA including sending monthly email updates

  • Oversee all six areas (Minneapolis, St. Paul, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest)

  • Provide area representative with a handbook every February during convention 

  • Assist area representatives in arranging CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW)

  • Attend area CE events during National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) 

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
