Area Representatives - Northwest, Southeast, West Central and East Central Area Rep positions are OPEN

State & Area Representative Duties (updated 12/24)


 State Representative Duties:


 1. Be available as a mentor to Area Representative committee chair & members.
 2. Discuss the Area Representative handbook with the Area Representative Chair ensuring consistency, resources, and guidance for successful leadership, annually.
 3. Schedule and meet with area representatives for monthly meetings.
 4. Assist Area Representative Chair & Area Representatives in planning Continuing Education (CE) events & social events to celebrate Veterinary Technician throughout the
 year, fostering professional development, strong member engagement, and expanding our community of professionals.
 5. Provide updates to Board Meetings.
 6. Participate in CE and social events throughout the year as an MAVT representative, enhancing support and engagement within each area.
 7. Minnesota representative to NAVTA providing monthly updates to the NAVTA district representative.
 8. Recruit new area reps and members to maintain and grow MAVT.



 Area Rep Committee Chair Duties:


 1. Be available as a mentor and contact for all area representatives.
 2. Provide updates at Board Meetings.
 3. Be knowledgeable with Area Rep Handbook
 4. Schedule and meet with area representatives for monthly meetings.
 5. Work with all area reps to plan and organize events and engage MAVT members and non-members within their districts.
 6. Work with the Executive Director to plan and organize events and other engagement activities.
 7. Collaborate with the State Representative with troubleshooting.
 8. Recruit new area reps in open districts as needed to maintain and grow MAVT
 membership.



 Area Rep Committee Members Duties:


 1. Be an advocate for all technicians, the primary focus within your district, by visiting or reaching out to local clinics. Will help provide support and educate members and
 non-members what MAVT has to provide within our association.
 2. Attend monthly meetings held by the State Rep and Area Rep Chair.
 3. Be knowledgeable with Area Rep Handbook.
 4. Work as a team with all members of the Area Rep committee, including the State Rep to plan and organize events and engage with MAVT members and non-members.
 5. Provide CE events(virtual or in-person), social gathering and have a presence at the annual convention.
 6. Work with the Executive Director, MAVT Board Members, State Rep and Area Rep Chair for events planned.
 7. Recruit new members to help maintain and grow MAVT.


Education Committee - Chair: OPEN

  • Contact between MAVT and accredited VT programs in Minnesota.

  • Designate a student liaison from each program via their SCNAVTA chapters.

  • Touch base with each program director as needed to keep them apprised of current MAVT actions that may affect or be of interest to students.

  • Oversee the MAVT scholarships.

  • Recruit students to the annual convention to assist with getting registration bags ready. 

  • Invite scholarship recipients to convention (MAVT covers) and business meeting.

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

 

Membership - Chair:  Cathy Smith 

  • Update membership numbers at monthly board meeting from dashboard.

  • Provide annual report for membership committee at annual business meeting.

  • Update/add membership benefits as needed.

  • Evaluate membership page on MAVT website to assess any changes needed.

  • Track volunteer membership status along with credential status.

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. Moderating, booth, registration desk).

  • Review Lifetime member applications, send to board for approval and work with President to send approved Lifetime members.


Newsletter - Editor:  Debi Mahoney

  • Research, assemble, edit and publish “The Voice”, MAVT monthly newsletter.

  • Submit newsletter to President/ President Elect for review prior to publishing online.

  • Post newsletter to MAVT website and notify website chair to release email blast.

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk).

IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Acceptance) Committee - Chair: Rosemary Klass


The IDEA committee's purpose is to ensure that MAVT is a welcoming outlet and space for all members in our veterinary community and beyond. Our committee goals are to help each member feel heard, seen and valued! Through intentional efforts that promote inclusion, equality and acceptance without discrimination of economic status, age, ethnicity, gender identity or any physical impediments. 

This committee works with the MAVT Education Committee to seek connections with multiethnic schools for the purpose of presenting the field of Veterinary Medicine at Career days, Classroom presentations or Assemblies as well as Job Fairs. 

 

Wellness - Chair: Rosemary Klass

The purpose for the MAVT Wellness Committee is to be a source of support to our Veterinary community and beyond, for their ongoing emotional, physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing. To aid them along their personal and corporate journey during their career in Veterinary Medicine as well as having a positive impact on the larger community.

  • The Wellness Committee seeks to provide tips, suggested articles and publications that support wellness.
  • We also coordinate and facilitate activities that bring us together as a community for support, friendship and life balance.

 

Sponsorship Committee - Chair: Sam Geiling

  • Contact members of the community to enlist sponsorship for CE events and annual convention

  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)

 

Credentials Committee No Openings - Chair:  Kim Horne

The chair of the MAVT credentials committee serves as a liaison between the MAVT Board and the MVMA Veterinary Technicians Committee as well as serving as a co-chair of the MVMA Veterinary Technician credentialing subcommittee.  the MAVT chair will be active in tasks related to Veterinary Technician credentialing and the State Practice Act, and will communicate updates to the MAVT board.

The MVMA Veterinary technicians committee is currently chaired by a DVM MVMA member (see MVMA Committee descriptions below*).  The MVMA Veterinary Technicians Committee will invite MAVT members to serve on their committee and these members are tasked with oversight of the Veterinary Technician Certification (guidelines for renewal; policies; reviewing individual submissions; procedures and legislation, including MN Veterinary Practice Act) related to Veterinary Technicians.

  • *MVMA Veterinary Technicians Committee:  Serve as a liaison between MAVT and MVMA. Promote credentialing and continuing education of Veterinary Technicians. Encourage Veterinarians to fully utilize credentialed Veterinary Technicians as vital members of the Veterinary Health Care Team. Support the growth and advancement of the Veterinary Technician profession broadly, and as a career that can sustain the individual long-term.
  • *Veterinary Technician Credentialing Subcommittee: Review MVMA continuing education guidelines and MN Veterinary Technician Certification renewal requirements and revise as needed. Evaluate certification renewals of current CVTS, provide feedback when requested for new applications with recommendations to approve/reject. 

Additional Duties:

  • Attend Governmental Affairs meetings as needed (typically November and February)
  • Attend MAVT annual convention, assist with volunteer tasks as needed (ex. moderating, booth, registration desk)
  • Review continuing education events seeking pre-approval with MVMA Veterinary Technician subcommittee and determine categorization as interactive or non-interactive as well as medical or non-medical

 

Convention Committee - Chair: Katie Kuecker

 

  • Organize annual convention

  • Four co-chairs

    • Speaker contact

      • Review post-convention surveys and research a variety of speakers and topics

      • Work with MVMA for shared speakers, topics and events.  

      • Arrange schedule of speakers/lectures  by days, time

      • Primary contact for speakers, send out contracts and follow up for notes.

      • Provide schedule information, notes, to the website/proceedings coordinator.

      • On-site at convention to help with speaker check in, registration, troubleshooting.

    • Hotel contact

      • Primary contact with hotel. 

      • Coordinate lecture rooms and work with speaker contact to determine what lectures are in each size room.  

      • Coordinate and arrange for any lunch sessions - number of attendees and menu selection. 

      • Coordinate AV requirements - with hotel AV or outside company. 

      • Arrange hotel reservations for speakers and board/volunteers.

    • Volunteer coordinator

      • MAVT convention currently has 3 official areas that require volunteers:  Registration Desk, Exhibit Booth and Session Moderators.  The task of putting together convention bags has been done by veterinary technician students and is typically managed by one of the vet tech program staff.  The Convention Volunteer Coordinator was created when these volunteer areas were divided out to multiple people managing these tasks.

      • The Coordinator is a resource to provide guidance and  ensures that the person in charge of the volunteers in each area has all the information (word documents, spreadsheets, forms, etc) to complete their tasks related to this role.

      • The Coordinator assists the MAVT board with reviewing the volunteer "perks" associated with convention volunteering.

      • Area Volunteers will turn in all required documents to the Volunteer Coordinator - to ensure that the coordinator is aware of the status of all volunteers

    • Online/Proceedings coordinator

      • Obtain price quote for online proceedings and printed program book from Omnipress.  Have it approved by the board and signed by September.  Current contact is Justis Collins (jcollins@omnipress.com) Omnipress.

      • Consolidate convention information for the MAVT website as soon as information is available.  Includes speaker schedule, lecture titles and descriptions, hotel information, reservation information, extra events, fees, etc.  

      • Work with MAVT website programmer to make sure online registration information is correct and ready to go online in early December (This could be a website task also)

      • Provide speaker/lecture/notes/webpage header art, and other material required for online proceedings.  The deadline for submitting these details is worked out with Omnipress but usually is 3 - 4 weeks prior to the convention deadline.  

      • Proof website for errors, broken links, etc prior to going live with online proceedings. 

      • Contact MVMA about shared events, silent auction, rabies testing, list of exhibitors/map.

      • Provide the convention program book to Omnipress in a digital ready format at least 2 -3 weeks prior to convention.  Includes cover, table of contents, speaker schedule, current officers, map of lecture rooms, extra event, list of exhibitors/map of exhibit hall, session location, lecture descriptions, and blank pages for notes. 

      • Proof program book and place order for appropriate quantity.   Provide shipping details.
